Gelato and the Love of Humanity

After my quality time with the angels on the P.St.A, I managed to fill up the rest of the day with drinking espresso, window shopping around the Pantheon, people watching at the Trevi fountain, window shopping and people watching at a posh shopping arcade, ducking into various small churches to see what was up (more baroque angels, among other things), eating gelato, eating street pizza, and, finally visiting St. Peter's. I did have to stand in line, but at least by then it was a shorter line and it wasn't raining.
Here are some highlights:

My new favorite gelateria (I'm a professional, so I use the official terminology) is San Crispino's. Mixing two complimentary flavors is key to the whole experience. Today I had whiskey and honey. Seriously, it was the best thing ever in the history of gelato. The whiskey was just a little bit smokey and their honey gelato is perfectly sweet and mild. If you think this sounds gross, don't tell me. I will dismiss you arrogantly and give you a patronizing pat on the head with my sticky gelato fingers.

A lion eating a deer on the side of a building.

Me eating gelato on the side of a tree.

Signs of life in the Vatican:

Kids on a field trip touch St. Peter's foot for a blessing/luck/as a sign of devotion.

Visions in white.

This shot was unintentional; these two stepped into my flash at the last minute and, well...it's funny, it's disturbing, I just can't decide what it is. But I like it. I will say that while I think there are many great works of art that are make-out worthy, the Pieta is definitely not on my list. Religious significance aside, it's a woman holding her dead son. *Cringe* I can't stop looking at it.

I never go anyplace holy without my trusty shoulder bag.

is it hot there? i think you should try peanut butter and mint gelato together next. i have a friend who loves that both-eyebrows-raised combo. your whiskey/honey (while it sounds unsettling initially) deserves one raised eyebrow in comparison. i also think you should go to giolitti's and have a frutti di bosca/fragola in my honor :) or maybe a cappucino/cioccolata. i will accept either!
