Rome? Where?! I'm Interested!

I was able to make the rounds to four of Cologne’s museums, each of which was interesting in its own right. The Wallraf-Richartz Museum with its collection old masters was an easy sell for me but I also really enjoyed the Römisch-Germanisches (Roman-Germanic) Museum.

Don't they add just the perfect something to this view?

Mosaic floor from the dining room of a Roman Merchant. They built the museum around this one (seriously, it's currently sitting in its original location).

The theme of the mosaic is Dionysus woos a maenad. Isn't the tile work amazing?

This bust was titled "head of a drunk old woman." Interesting choice of subject. Apparently it was part of a larger fountain. Wish I could see the rest of the fountain...

I don't think I've ever seen Roman glassware that wasn't in fragments. Gorgeous! My photo doesn't really do justice to the green color. Does anybody currently have a set of glasses like the one on the left? Looks oddly like something from the 1970s.

From the tomb of a Roman soldier, title "winged guardian in mourning." This was one of my favorites.
